Sholay Vs Titanic: And the Winner is.....

When it comes to competition between Hollywood and Bollwyood, Hollywood movies hold the advantage in terms of quality, theme and motion. However, Bollywood movies get an edge in providing fun, entertainment and solid melo drama. When it comes to representation, Sholay leads the pack in Bollywood, while Titanic stands tall for Hollywood.
Let's discuss what exactly Sholay and Titanic give to their viewers and why are they considered as the best in their respective industries. It's for the readers to decide which one is the better of the two.
SHOLAY (1975)
Sholay is regarded as the most analyzed movie in Indian cinema. It's an evergreen classic. No matter how many times it is played on Theatres or Television Channels, people never feel tired of watching it. It ran full house for five consecutive years at Mumbai's Minerva theatre. Incredible, but true. Its star cast included Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Jaya Bhaduri (now Bachchan) and Amjad Khan.
The film presents the example of perceptive filmmaking. It has everything: action, emotion, drama, love and entertainment. The story line is simple, yet powerful to move the viewers. A policeman (Thankur), who always love to play with danger, succeeds nabbing a dreaded dacoit, Gabbar Singh. But the dacoit took revenge by killing Thakur's family members and chopping off his both arms. Thakur hires the services of two small-time thieves Veeru and Jai and rest is history.
The film has unforgettable dialogues that are still recited by the movie-lovers in India. Be it acting, music or picturisation, Sholay does not disappoint its viewers. Some of the characters like Gabbar Singh, Basanti, Thakur and Jai-Veeru became legends in Indian Cinema. These names are now a part of Indian household. sholay is unique cannot be recreated. This is proved when a very talented director Ram Gopal Verma produced its remake "RGV's Aag" recently. Not surprisingly, it turned out to be the biggest flop of the year. As long as Indian Cinema is there, Sholay will remain its heart and soul.
TITANIC (1997)
The only Hollywood movie that took the Bollywood by storm is "Titanic". Several movies came and went before and after Titanic. But none of them generated such passion, emotion and sense of love that Titanic did.
Titanic is a 1997 American romantic drama about the sinking of the RMS Titanic. Its star cast included Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di Caprio. They formed the on-screen pair Rose and Jack. The film is based on a true story of the ill-fated 1912 voyage of the ship. The film proved to be a critical and commercial success. It won 11 Academy Awards and generated the highest revenue in Hollywood History - US$1.8 billion.
The love story begins inside ship when Jack proposes Rose, but she declined it because of her engagement obligations. However, later she changed her mind to fall for Jack in a secret romance. Their love gained momentum and they decided the leave the ship. However, fortune had something else for them in store. The ship collided with an iceberg and it was sinking. In between, there was some action, as Rose's finance got to know about their affair. The ship finally sank with thousands of people meeting death. Rose survives, but Jack could not. But their love never dies. It lives forever.
Titanic turned out to be great success worldwide. It swept all the awards. Among all, it received 11 Oscar Academy Awards, The Golden Globe and many more. It was dubbed into all major languages and was screened all over the world. Surprisingly, it received overwhelming response everywhere. No other movie has ever achieved such distinction.
Final Word:
Both Sholay and Titanic have their importance in respective industries. More importantly, while Titanic received accolade across the globe, Sholay did extremely well in countries like UK, Japan, Russia and many others. It's difficult to say which one is better between the two.
While comparing, we must keep in mind that Sholay was made in 1975. At that time, technology was not that much advanced and craze for movies was very low. Titanic holds the advantage because it was released in the modern era. When it comes to comparison between the two, it should be left to the public to decide the Numer Uno.

Bollywood Stars fall for Pets

It's really heartening to see Bollywood going pet friendly. Starlets like Urmila Matondkar, Sushmita Sen and Rani Mukherjee have shown their interest in pets. Sushmita, who always roar to make a dent in traditional male bastion, find dogs more reliable than men. She may not have a true man in her life, but she has at least 6 loyal dogs of various breeds.

Rani and Urmila treat their dogs as their own children. These strong, power babes believe that it's easy to handle the pets than men. In today's modern world, the female celebrities look for a companion who will remain loyal and dedicated to them. Since they hardly find men trustworthy, they turn towards pets as their companions and bring them us as their own children.

It's not that just the young celebrities are obsessed about their pets. Veteran actress Raakhee treats Pari as her second daughter. She is just crazy about her. Interestingly, her estranged husband Gulzaar also spend most of the time with his pet dog Pali.

The 10 Movies that rock the Bollywood in 2007

Bollywood movies always provide a mixture of fun, action, music and emotion. People in the Western World always wonder how the Bollywood movie makers mix up things so easily. Although Bollywood produces movies in the range of 200 - 300 per year, only a few movies manage to get to the top. This article lists the 10 Best Bollywood Blockbusters that have boosted the Box Office to a great extent.

You may not find some of your favorite movies in this list and I apologize for that. It's true that there are at least 20-odd movies that did well on the box office. However, we had to list the 10 best ones based on popularity, wholesome entertainment, industry reviews and box office reports. Here they go:

1. Guru: Guru is the biggest blockbuster of the year. The movie also set the stage for the biggest celebrity wedding of the year between Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. Critics admit that it is indeed a masterpiece. Be it the flawless direction of Mani Ratnam or the scintillating performance of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwahrya Rai, the film has everything for all kind of viewers. Music in the film is amazing and some of the songs have become big hits.

If you have watched Abhiskek before, you will admit that he exceeded all the expectations with his spectacular performance in Guru. No one could have done better than him on this role. Other stars like Mithun Chakraborty, Madhavan and Vidya Balan did proper justice to their respective jobs. This is a movie you will never forget.

2. Chak De India: A bunch of teenager girls with no acting experience under the leadership of Bollywood Superstar Shahrukh Khan took the entire nation by storm. Yes, we are talking about Chak De India. It's strange to see a movie based on Hockey doing great in a cricket crazy nation. The movie does not talk about fun and entertainment. It's about skill and substance.

The movie shows how a discarded hockey captain of India got a bunch of young girls and led them to win the Women's Hockey World Cup in style. Skill, emotion, patience, determination and challenge are the essence of this movie. It has everything to be nominated to Oscar. And who knows, India may not come back empty-handed this time.

3. Namaste London: After Aankhen and Waqt, director Vipul Shah and Actor Akshay Kumar have come up with another big hit - Namastey London. The biggest plus point the director enjoyed was the story line. It was a strong story based on the integration of Indian and Western culture. The film talks about Indians, Pakistanis and British people. It also evokes patriotism and emotion. The movie successfully generates the "feel good" factor, which makes it different among all.

4. Ta Ra Rum Pum: Motor Racing in India is still a dream despite the success of Narain Karthikeyan and Karan Chandok on the global arena. However, Saif Ali Khan, as a F1 driver, did a grea job to make Ta Ra Rum Pum a big hit on the box office. Sports, thrill, music, and emotion everything is there. And above all, it's a film for family and children too.

Personalization of the script makes Ta Ra Rum Pum different from others. The film revolves around the journey of a person from pit-crew to a successful FI driver. This is an amazing movie - worth watching for everyone.

5. Partner: Love Guru Speaks! Yes, this is the theme around which the movie Partner is built. However, you will get more than what you expect when you watch it. Partner is the biggest comedy hit of the year so far. Govinda and Salman Khan are at their best when it comes to comedy. And, together they form a great "partnership".

Salman as Love Guru and Govinda as a buffoonish did a great job and make people crazy with their performance. Romance, comedy, love and emotion, everything is there in Partner.

6. Bheja Fry: Comedy in a different style - is Bheja Fry. It defies the traditional bollywood comedy sequences, yet goes straight into the heart of people. Debutant director Sagar Ballary did a credible job with a bunch of talented actors like Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak and Sarika. Vinay Pathak is at his best when it comes to the comedy scenes that create a difference. Storyline is novel, creative and simple. No dancing sequels, no action or love triangle. Yet, it proves to be the best among all. Although Bheja Fry looks more like a stage play, it is indeed a crowd-puller movie.

7. Gandhi, My Father: Gandhi, My Father, is an unexpected entry to the top ten movies this year. Before it release, the movie was dubbed as an Art Film and was expected to do well among selected viewers. However, it turned out to be big hit, as people adopted and admired this movie. The success of Gandhi, My Father, came as a big relief for producer Anil Kapoor, who did his best to bring an unfolded story to the big screen.

This film portrays Gandhi’s personal and darker side of life and his relationship with his eldest son Harilal. It depicts the life of a man who is estranged between his public duty and his duty towards his family. It shows Harilal’s decline towards alcoholism and converting to Islam as a rebellion against his father. The storyline of this film basically revolves around the conflict between the aspirations and expectations of a son and principles of a father. Both Darshan Jariwala as Gandhi and Akshaye Khanna as Harilal have done proper justice their respective roles.

8. Shootout At Lokhandwala: This film has some of the big stars of Bollywood such as Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Vivek Oberoi, Arbaaz Khan, Tusshar Kapoor and Sunil Shetty. However, it will be remembered for one man - Vivek Oberai's coming-of-age performance. The story is about a young group of gangsters who defy their boss in Dubai when it comes to dignity and pride, but finally ran into the ATS (Anti-Terrorist Squad) and were mercilessly killed.
All the actors did their job very well. Director Apoorva Lakhia has given the right treatment the movie requires for its impact. Overall, Shootout At Lokhandwala leaves a significant impact on the viewers.
9. Aap Ka Suroor: Himesh Reshammiya's debut film Aap Ka Surror created a sensation in India. The journey of Himesh from a TV Producer to a Music Composer was long. However, he took little time to hit the Big Screen. Nobody has a doubt on his singing skills. However, people are curious to know about his acting skills. Himesh is not a Star, but his performance in Aap Ka Suroor is definitely laudable.

There is nothing new in the story. This is the same story we have watched hundred times in Bollywood movies. But it is presented beautifully and Himesh did a fair job with his limited acting skills. The movie became a hit, not for his acting skills, but for the reputation he enjoyed among the masses for his singing quality.

10. Heyy Babby: This is the latest Bollywood release, yet already became a hit. It's the debut movie of Sajid Khan as a director and he came up with his best. "Heyy Babyy", which features Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Ritiesh Deshmukh and Vidya Balan had a huge opening on the box office in the first week itself.

Three men with different characteristics ran into a girl Vidya Balan, who wanted to avenge the betrayl she had from numerous guys. And, she really made them dance on their toes. A great movie with beautiful comedy sequences. It's worth wathcing with friends.
