Policeman Suspended for giving "Jadoo Ki Jhappi" to Sanjay Dutt

Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil ordered inquiry into the policemen at Yerawada Jail socializing with Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt on his release from the prison on August 23. Media footage showed Sanjay Dutt hugging a Pune police jawan and shaking hands with 6 others. The policemen were deployed outside the jail to ensure security.

The policeman who hugged Sanjay Dutt, has been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been ordered against all those involved in this incident. The police code of conduct forbids the police personnel to socialise with convicts. The government wants to know whether the jawans took the initiative of socializing with the actor, or it was the actor who took the initiative.

Two Celebrity Convictions that sink the Bollywood

Within a month, the Bollywood witnessed two celebrity convictions and is all set to lose crores of Rupees if these celebrities go to jail. First came the news that Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was sentenced to six years in prison for purchasing illegal weapons from the accused in the Mumbai Bomb Blast case in 1993. Although he got an interim bail from the Supreme Court, he will be back in prison soon.

Just when Bollywood was recovering from the shock of Sanjay Dutt's conviction, another conviction rattled it. This time it was "Bollywood badboy" Salman Khan. Salman Khan was sentenced to five years in prison by a lower court in a Black Buck hunting case. He had filed an appeal against the verdict in a higher court. However, the higher court upheld the lower court verdict, which mean Salman will have to go to jail for five years.

Sanjay Dutt’s conviction would lead to a loss of Rs 90-100 crore for producers whose films are under production. The films include Kidnap, Mr Fraud and Alibaug. If the conviction takes place, the filmmakers will either shelve their films or replace Dutt with other actors. That would result in a huge loss for the filmmakers. also, it may not be possible for them to replace Dutt with other actors. If the films are shelved, the loss and its impact would be unbearable.

The situation is no different in case of Salman Khan. Salman's conviction will result in a Rs. 70 - 80 crore loss for the Bollywood. Since Salman's recent release "Partner" has been a huge success, the Bollywood heavily relied on him for other big projects. His projects under production include Rumi Jaffery's ''God Tussi Great Ho'', Boney Kapoor's untitled venture, Atul Agnihotri's ''Hello'', ''Mera Bharat Mahan'', Subhash Ghai's ''Yuvraaj'' and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ''Sawariya''. If Salman goes to jail, the loss for the Bollywood could be much more than expected.

Certainly, it's not a great time for the Bollywood. With some big hits like "Partner" and Chak De", Bollywood was expected to go for a boom in the later half of 2007. However, the conviction of Sanjay Dutt and Salman dampened the mood and spirit. Now filmmakers and the entire Bollywood fraternity are keeping their fingers crossed to see what course the law will take in the coming days.

Hotpari is back?

It seems that some people are playing hide and seek game with the viewers using the websites http://www.hotpari.com/ and http://www.damesndesires.com/. If the owners of those sites are already behind the bars, who are those people who activated those sites a few days back? The sites were banned following the busting of the sex rackets involving Bollywood actresses and the owners of these websites. However, to the utter surprise of the viewers, the sites staged a comeback just after 15/20 days and were clearly visible to all.

However, now the sites are completely banned and cannot be opened. That may be a huge relief for thousands of people who condemn such sex rackets involving high profile starlets. It is expected that the cyber cell of the police department will take necessary steps to prevent those websites from showing up again on the web and also act against such websites that operate under the guise of informative channels.

Rakhi Demands Costume Payment

Rakhi Sawant as usual created another drama on the sets of her forthcoming movie Buddha Mar Gaya, this time for costumes. It is said that in this movie she wore her own costumes rather than those selected by the film crew. The reason for that what Rakhi gave was that those costumes were ill-fitting and too tight for her – in short she did not like them hence preferred to wear her own ones. This is not all, the main issue right now is that she is demanding to be paid for those costumes from the producer.

But Rahul Rawail had a different story to tell. This is what he has to say “obviously, we had a problem as we had already structured a look for her in the film. Rakhi is quite erratic. She said that she had tried the costumes but didn’t like them. In fact, she said that they were very tight. But my dress assistant came and told me that she had never tried any of them in the first place. In fact, she came and told me that she loved the costumes. I guess she has amnesia as she forgot that she was cribbing about the same costume a day prior to it.”

It seems that Rakhi has made it a custom that wherever she goes drama undoubtedly follows!!!

The 10th Rajiv Gandhi Awards function at the Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, NCPA, witnessed a dramatic situation with Vivek Oberai offering a public apology to Salman Khan at the end of a dance program. On his way out after a dance performance with Koena Mitra, Vivek stopped before Salman, put his hands together and bowed before him. Vivek grabbed his own ears and bowed and uttered the word 'Bhai', but Salman turned away and shook his head, a complete snub to Vivek's apology.

Even Shilpa Shetty, who was seated next to Salman, requested him to forgive Vivek, but Salman did not relent and preferred to ignore him. Salman and Shilpa Shetty were honored for excellence in cinema and entertainment.

Gandhi My Father - Movie Review

While the action, romance and entertainment filled movies rule the Bollywood, it's really surprising to see a movie like Gandhi My Father finding favor with the audience. Yes, the movie goes well with the viewers. Gandhi My Father depicts a journey of a man and his father with their relationship being reviewed from both angles. As the story spans almost 50 years, the transition has been shown in a logical manner.

There is hardly any flaws in the movie and everyone did their part in a professional manner. The scenes are written in a simple and comprehensive way without passing any judgment. At the end of each scene, it is for the readers to find the conclusion and believe me, that's very simple. Hats off to the writer and director of the movie.

When you enter into the theater to watch Gandhi My Father, you might have a different kind of mindset about the movie. However, when you come out, you become more logical and practical. No other movies in the past showed the other side of Gandhi and about the 'behind the scenes' struggle of a family that has been revered at a high esteem in India history.

Darshan Zariwala (Gandhi), Akshaye Khanna (Harilal), Shefali Chhaya (Kasturba) and Bhumika Chawla have done full justice to their roles. They are at their best when it comes to performance. There is no doubt that the film will much more than expected. A huge success for debutant director Feroz Abbas Khan and producer Anil Kapoor.

My Rating for the Movie: ***1/2

Bollywood back in Russia

People in Russia have shown special interest in Bollywood films. The trend continues from the days of Soviet Union. Things have changed a lot since then. But Bollywood still rules the heart of many generations. Indian films are making a comeback to Russia in style. The forthcoming week long festival of Indian golden oldies will throw an opportunity to Russians to rekindle their old memory.

Although most of the Russian films are made on the lines of Hollywood, it's interesting to see Bollywood still finding favor with the Russians. Aftermath the collapse of Soviet Union, it became difficult for Bollywood to reach Russian market and it was overtaken by Hollywood. However, the renewed interest in Bollywood must be a seen as a great sign.

Gandhi, My Father in Controversy

“Gandhi, My Father”, released worldwide today, created a controversy on Gandhi’s “Father of Nation” recognition.

This film portrays Gandhi’s personal and darker side of life and his relationship with his eldest son Harilal. It depicts the life of a man who is estranged between his public duty and his duty towards his family. It shows Harilal’s decline towards alcoholism and converting to Islam as a rebellion against his father. The storyline of this film basically revolves around the conflict between the aspirations and expectations of a son and principles of a father.

Even before the film was released, Gandhi’s followers wrote to President and PM to ban the film as the believed it was disrespectful to use the name of the 'father of the nation' for commercial gains.

Ironically, while his followers are condemning the movie, Gandhi’s own family has complimented the director for making such a balanced and real film taking a sensitive storyline, which has really showed the pain on both sides.

The release of this movie has really been a flip-flop, now let's watch and see how the movie is going to turn out, a hit or a flop!
