IFFI begins in Goa

The 38th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI-07) began in Goa with much fanfare. The inaugural lamp was lit by Bollywood Superstar Shahrukh Khan. He was assisted by Priyamani, a South Indian star. The inaugural function was attended by Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Priyranjan Dasmunshi, Chief Minister Digamber Kamat, Secretary (I&B) Asha Swarup, Goa Chief Secretary Mr. J. P. Singh, Panjim Mayor Mr. Tony Rodrigues and Festival Director Neelam Kapur.

Mr. Priyaranjan Dasmunshi maintained that Goa will be a permanent venue to host the International Film Festival of India every year. CM Digamber Kamat too expressed the same opinion. The Union government has decided to confer lifetime achievement award on veteran actor Dilip Kumar and melody queen Lata Mangeshkar. Romanian film '4 months, 3 weeks & 2 days' was screened as the opening film. Actors of the movie Cristian Mungiu and Anamaria Marinca were felicitated at the inaugural ceremony.
