Gandhi, My Father in Controversy
“Gandhi, My Father”, released worldwide today, created a controversy on Gandhi’s “Father of Nation” recognition.This film portrays Gandhi’s personal and darker side of life and his relationship with his eldest son Harilal. It depicts the life of a man who is estranged between his public duty and his duty towards his family. It shows Harilal’s decline towards alcoholism and converting to Islam as a rebellion against his father. The storyline of this film basically revolves around the conflict between the aspirations and expectations of a son and principles of a father.
Even before the film was released, Gandhi’s followers wrote to President and PM to ban the film as the believed it was disrespectful to use the name of the 'father of the nation' for commercial gains.
Ironically, while his followers are condemning the movie, Gandhi’s own family has complimented the director for making such a balanced and real film taking a sensitive storyline, which has really showed the pain on both sides.
The release of this movie has really been a flip-flop, now let's watch and see how the movie is going to turn out, a hit or a flop!
